O. L. D. In the Communication Studies department we are justifiably proud of our many graduates – including one Jennifer K. (Jenny) Shea. We would be hard pressed to find a faculty member or classmate who could not attest to Jenny’s high level of maturity, her wonderful sense of humor, her sensitivity toward the needs and concerns of others, and her strong commitment to working with others as a team. The weekend weather was picture perfect, the Cardinal’s overtime victory over Western Michigan was thrilling, and the students’ and alumni spirits were high. And of course, there were the bed races, which rank right next to Air Jam as one of BSU’s “must attend” Homecoming traditions. This year the bed races took place on Friday, October 12th at noon. This year, the faculty in the Department of Communication Studies dominated, winning four of the seven awards. Dr. Kathy Denker received the award for “High Technology,” Dr. Peggy Fisher for “Community Connections,” Dr. Kristen McCauliff for “Teaching,” and Dr. Carrie Shue for “Research. ” Each of the recipients indicated they were both surprised and honored to win their particular award since, as noted by Kathy, “with so many exceptional faculty in our college, it is really a privilege to win an award like this. ”

Students, families, and faculty gathered in the lobby of the David Letterman Building to recognize graduating seniors and other students who have made important contributions to the department and its programs during the past year. During the ceremony, 60 seniors who graduated in Fall 2011 or will graduate in Spring and Summer 2012 were recognized. The team came home triumphant. For the 5th year in a row, the team won the national NEDA championship! Before the showdown began, the team took time to unwind with a tour of the Big Apple. The day started with a mild and sunny stroll through Central Park before the 30-block trek to the Empire State Building. In true New York fashion, hotdogs and pizza were served for lunch from sidewalk vender carts along the way. So

As a Communications Specialist for the development office at Magee-Womens Research Institute & Foundation (MWRIF) in Pittsburgh, PA, she works in the growing health care industry and at a well-respected institution. Magee is part of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. The research institute is one of the largest such facilities in the nation to focus exclusively on issues associated with women’s and infants’ health. This event was a part of the David Letterman Distinguished Professional Lecture and Workshop Series. This series began in 2009 and has welcomed various guests such as Ted Koppel and Biz Stone who have given lectures and advice to Ball State students.
