Amarillo—There is still time to register for the annual Diocesan Faith Formation Conference, scheduled Saturday, Aug. 6 at St. Mary’s Cathedral, 1200 South Washington, according to Sister Janet M. Abbacchi, SSND, Diocesan Coordinator of Faith Formation. “All catechists, Catholic school teachers, lectors, RCIA leaders and anyone and everyone involved in parish ministry are invited to attend,” she said. “We have planned an outstanding day of presentations and we’ll have a number of vendors showing off the newest in textbooks and teaching materials. ” Activities begin with registration at 8:30am in the Cathedral’s Monsignor Smyer Activity Center. The theme of this year’s conference is With a Faithful God— We make our Covenant. After Morning Prayer at 9am, Bishop Patrick J. Zurek will speak at 9:30, with a keynote address focusing on The WORD speaks—Catechists Listen. Among this new breed of heroes are Pope Benedict XVI, St. Paul and Old Testament figure Judith. They are the stars of comic books done in a style older generations never saw in the comicbook rack at the neighborhood drugstore growing up. The genre is called manga, a Japanese genre of cartoons and comic books, and Jonathan Lin, who runs Manga Hero, may well be the world’s only publisher of Catholic manga comics. According to Kim Richard, diocesan Director of Development and Stewardship, the meetings are designed to assist parishes for the upcoming UCA campaign. Adult meal tickets are $10, children’s tickets are $5 and kids six and under eat free. Take-out meals will also be available for $10. Uncooked sausage will be sold at $4 per pound and cooked sausage for $6 per pound.
