Woman and Art in Spain: Artists before 1936.
Exhibited works – missing works.
Abstract
In the History of Official Art, women artists (painters, sculptresses, potters
etc...) have never been taken into account. The lack of news about their
biographies and about their artistic output is a constant feature and this absence
has justified that they didn’t exist or anyway their work was not of a good
quality.
The main goal of this dissertation would be to take down that fallacy, thus it
brings forward information about the existence of women artists along every
period of time and about the different artistic activities in which they took part.
It collects the feminist investigators’ theoretical contributions which state that
this lack of news is not an innocent matter, but it is due to the fact that the
History of Official Art has developed a male discourse inside clear sexist
structures.
