Grupos con Base en la Fe Intensifican Defensa de Justicia sobre Alimentos En años recientes corporaciones agroindustriales y empresas financieras han tomado control de gran parte de la industria global de alimentos, incluyendo tierras, procesos de producción, y hasta el precio de los alimentos por medio de la especulación. Esto ha ahondado la consternación por el impacto que causa en las personas que son más afectadas por el hambre y la desnutrición en todo el mundo. Para contrarrestar esto, las Hermanas de la Misericordia en las Naciones Unidas han insistido en el reconocimiento del derecho humano a los alimentos y han sumado sus voces a quienes claman por un “empoderamiento del pueblo” como un paso hacia la erradicación de la pobreza. Septiembre-Octubre 2012 Lo último de la Misericordia sobre Justicia publicado cada dos meses PRESENTAN COMPROMISO PARA ASUNTOS CRÍTICOS Recursos Relacionados con Asuntos Críticos para las Elecciones El Equipo de Justicia del Instituto ha preparado “Elecciones 2012 EEUU: ¿Cuál es la posición de cada candidato/a ante asuntos de misericordia y justicia en nuestro mundo?” Esta guía de 16 páginas está diseñada para promover el discurso público sobre las elecciones nacionales y estatales de este año, centrándose en la pobreza y los Asuntos Críticos de Tierra, inmigración, no-violencia, racismo y mujeres. Plantea preguntas que incitan a la reflexión junto con estadísticas actualizadas, hechos y definiciones. Recursos de la Misericordia para la elecciones también incluye artículos semanales, perspectivas sobre «asuntos de actualidad» y medios para comprobar declaraciones y materiales de promoción de los/as candidatos/as.

July-August 2012 Mercy justice highlights published every other month FEATURED CRITICAL CONCERNS ENGAGEMENT College Students Exhibit Passion for Justice Students from Gwynned Mercy College, Mount Aloysius College and Misericordia University met with an aide to Senator Robert Casey (above) as part of an advocacy immersion experience. Forty-one students and staff from Mercy-sponsored colleges and universities came to Washington,D. C. to learn about advocacy through the lens of immigration issues. The program, sponsored by the Conference of Mercy Higher Education (CMHE) and the Institute Justice Team, included a visit to an immigrant center, learning about faith-based advocates’ work on Capitol Hill, and meeting with staff of their legislators. Participating institutions also included Detroit-Mercy, Georgian Court, Mount Mercy, St. Joseph Connecticut, St. Joseph Maine and Saint Xavier. You may read more about the experience here.

Julio-Agosto 2012 Lo último de la Misericordia sobre Justicia publicado cada dos meses SE DESTACA COMPROMISO SOBRE ASUNTOS CRÍTICOS Estudiantes Universitarios Exhiben Pasión por la Justicia Estudiantes de Gwynned Mercy College, Mount Aloysius College y Misericordia University se reunieron con un asistente del Senador Robert Casey (arriba) como parte de una experiencia de inmersión en defensa/abogacía. Cuarenta y un estudiantes y personal de colegios y universidades patrocinados por la Misericordia vinieron a Washington, D. C para aprender sobre defensa/abogacía a través de la lente de los temas de inmigración. El programa, patrocinado por la Conferencia de la Misericordia de la Educación Superior (CMES) y el Equipo de Justicia del Instituto, incluyó una visita a un centro de inmigración, un aprendizaje sobre el trabajo de defensa/abogacía basado en la fe en Capitol Hill y una reunión con el personal de sus legisladores.
